13 June, Bonn: Speakers at a Climate Action Network press briefing today outlined the concerns around the progress on discussions on the Just Transition Work Programme with attempts by some rich nations to water down the language specifically around finance and cooperation.

The speakers also highlighted the need to ensure just transition and the phase out from fossil fuels emerge as key priority areas- given their entwined nature – at COP28. They cited the example of Pacific Island nations and their leadership through the Port Vila call for a phase out of fossil fuels and the need for a global Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

SPEAKERS
Rev. James Shri Bhagwan, General Secretary, Pacific Conference of Churches
Anabella Rosemberg, Senior Advisor, Just Transition, CAN International
Sven Harmeling, International Climate Policy Coordinator, CAN Europe
