June 8 2023 Bonn: With negotiations still ongoing without an agenda, the speakers at the Climate Action Network commented on the arrival of Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President and CEO of ADNOC, in Bonn.

They highlighted the need to ensure that the Bonn climate talks set the groundwork for success at COP28.

Tracy Carty, Greenpeace International said: “Never has climate injustice been so profitable, and so pronounced as it is today.  It’s time for the fossil fuel industry to stop drilling and start paying.”
“We don’t have an absence of money for climate action, we have an absence of government action to make polluters pay”

Mohamed Adow, Power Shift Africa said: “The fossil fuel era is clearly coming to an end.  We didn’t stop the stone age because we ran out of stones.  In the same way, the fossil fuel era needs to be brought to a close before we run out of fossil fuels. If we want to live on a habitable planet we need to leave our current fossil fuel reserves in the ground.
