Seeing Through the GlaSS / Mirando a través del “espejo” (GLaSS – Glasgow – Shram-el-Sheik) (ECO 3, SB56)

The first workshop of the Glasgow – Sharm el-Sheikh (GlaSS) work programme on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) opens today.

And it’s about time too. 

It’s been seven long years since the GGA formed part of the Paris Agreement. Yet only now are we discussing the means to realise its aims.

But better late than never. If that is, the urgency is recognized. If it’s a learning process rather than a negotiation in an obscure language. And if it’s inclusive and transparent. 

First and foremost,  ECO insists that people must be at the centre of the Global Goal. After all, what we are working towards is reducing their vulnerability and increasing their resilience and capacity.

We will be looking around the workshop today to see if there is a diversity of people represented—youth, women, disabled, poor, Indigenous Peoples and the marginalised impacted by the climate disasters—reflecting the diversity of vulnerabilities and the many and various routes to resilience.

Hoy se inaugura el primer taller del programa de trabajo de Glasgow – Sharm el-Sheikh (GlaSS) sobre el Objetivo Global de Adaptación (GGA) 

Y, también, ¡ya era hora!

Han pasado siete largos años desde que el GGA forma parte del Acuerdo de París. Sin embargo, recién ahora estamos discutiendo los medios para alcanzar sus objetivos.

Pero más vale tarde que nunca. Sí, eso sí, se reconoce la urgencia. Si fuera un proceso de aprendizaje en lugar de una negociación en lenguaje oscuro. Y si fuera incluyente y transparente.

Ante todo, ECO insiste en que las personas deben estar en el centro del Objetivo Global. Al fin y al cabo, lo que pretendemos es reducir su vulnerabilidad y aumentar su resiliencia y capacidad.

Hoy echaremos un vistazo al taller para ver si hay una diversidad de personas representadas -jóvenes, mujeres, discapacitados, pobres, pueblos indígenas y marginados afectados por los desastres climáticos- que reflejen la diversidad de vulnerabilidades y las muchas y variadas rutas hacia la resiliencia.
