Submission to the COP30 Presidency-led process to develop a Roadmap to Halting and Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation by 2030

March 2026

Climate Action Network (CAN) welcomes the invitation by the COP30 Presidency to submit contributions to the Roadmap on Halting and Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation by 2030. Despite numerous global and national pledges and efforts on forests over the past decade, including the first Global Stocktake (GST1) call for enhanced efforts to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation by 2030, the world remains off track to meet these shared objectives. This persistent implementation gap, with the rapidly closing window to 2030, underscores the need for renewed, more ambitious and coherent approaches that can both accelerate action and unlock the enabling conditions required for real progress. In this submission, we outline key recommendations and priority areas for action capable of accelerating efforts towards the 2030 forest goals. We also offer suggestions on how the Roadmap process itself can effectively integrate inclusion, human rights frameworks, justice and political relevance.
