My name is Haneen Mahmoud Ali Hamed and I am speaking on behalf of Climate Action Network. 

For over 30 years governments have not acted fast enough to prevent dangerous climate change.  And now we are living in an era of Loss and Damage. While people are suffering across the world from heatwaves, floods, droughts, storms and slow onset events such as sea-level rise and desertification, governments are still protecting and supporting the deadly fossil fuel industry. While there is no finance to address Loss and Damage, governments still subsidize the fossil fuel industry to the tune of 5.9 trillion dollars a year and to be clear – in the 1 minute I am allowed to make this statement the fossil fuel industry will have received 11 million dollars …and every minute thereafter. 

So – All we want to say to governments is:

No more empty words , just pay up for loss and damage!
