About Joey
Joanna Christina Sta. Isabel, or Joey, is a human rights and climate justice advocate from the Philippines whose work bridges policy, education, and grassroots movement-building. She started her career organizing youth leaders across the Philippines and later worked with persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, farmers, and educators in her various capacities.
Over the past decade, she has worked across government, civil society organizations, and international spaces, always with a deep commitment to centering the leadership and lived experiences of those most affected by injustice. A licensed professional teacher by training, Joey designs and facilitates transformative learning spaces — from training youth leaders and grassroots advocates to engaging policymakers and high-level government officials.
Joey also volunteers in a Philippine-based collective that supports the mental health and well-being of social justice defenders. In her downtime, she loves reading, exploring different hobbies, and finishing side quests. Prior to joining CAN International, Joey served as the Asia Network Coordinator for 350.org.
