Governance & Strategy Lead

Jeff Smith is a consultant specializing in governance issues (including resilience, strategic planning, and capacity building), as well as in policy issues including sustainability, climate change, environmental law and disability rights. Jeff has been a CEO for 15 years, including as CEO of EDO NSW –  Australia’s premier public interest law firm working to protect the environment and People with Disability Australia, one of the largest disability advocacy organizations in the world.

Jeff is a solicitor with a Masters of Law from Sydney University (majoring in Environmental Law and Policy). He regularly teaches postgraduate and undergraduate courses at Macquarie and Sydney University.

Jeff is currently on the Advisory Committee for the Australian Centre for Climate and Environmental Law (having been Chair for 8 years), the Board of the Haymarket Foundation and the Leadership Coalition of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA). He was also a long-time Board member of the EDO Ltd, the Total Environment Centre, the Environmental Planning and Law Association, and CLC NSW as well the Strategic Council for the Climate Institute.
