Iskander Erzini Vernoit, CAN Africa

Iskander Erzini Vernoit currently works full-time as a founding director at the IMAL Initiative for Climate & Development, the first independent non-profit climate think- tank in North Africa, headquartered in Rabat, Morocco. As part of his role at IMAL, Iskander oversees the management of the organization while engaging with civil society, governments, and non-state actors on issues relating to the climate crisis.
Iskander has a diverse background in climate policy, with expertise spanning
sustainable development, energy systems, adaptation, loss and damage, climate finance, UNFCCC negotiations, and international climate cooperation. Iskander began his career as a climate negotiator for the Kingdom of Morocco on the COP22 Presidency and later worked in the London headquarters of climate think-tank E3G, where he helped lead on key finance-related advancements ahead of COP26, and has held other climate-related roles across civil society, diplomacy, academia, and socially responsible investment, as well as grassroots social movements.
Iskander holds an MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a BA in Political Science (Interdisciplinary Concentration in Climate Politics) from Yale University.
