Carolyn Kitione, Pacific Islands CAN (PICAN)
Member of the Human Resources and Network Development Committees, Anti-Bullying Focal Point
Carolyn Kitione is the Regional Representative of the Shifting the Power Coalition, a Pacific network of 15 women’s organisations advancing locally-led humanitarian action and climate resilience across the region. With more than a decade of experience in the Pacific women’s movement, Carolyn works to strengthen collaboration that responds to climate change and disasters from the frontlines of their communities.
Her work focuses on feminist humanitarian action and climate justice with a strong emphasis on ensuring that diverse Pacific women and young women are recognised as leaders, innovators, and decision-makers in crisis response. Carolyn supports coalition partners to share knowledge, strengthen collective advocacy, and advance community-based approaches to resilience, including the development of Pacific women-led early warning and resilience systems that respond to the realities of island communities.
She also serves as President of the Fiji YWCA, where she champions intergenerational leadership and works to sustain spaces for young women to organise, lead, and influence decision-making. She believes that strengthening movements across the Pacific requires investing in young women today as architects of tomorrow’s solutions. Carolyn has represented Pacific women’s organisations in global spaces, where she continues to advocate for locally -ed responses and greater recognition of the leadership of women and communities on the climate frontlines.
