Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST) is a not-for-profit organization working to advance policies and programs on climate and green energy.
Located in the village of Barangay Dampalit, in metro Manilla CREST consulted with local communities on the issue of access to clean cooking in the area. CREST introduced the project to provide a sustainable source of clean cooking.

100 households feed the biodigester, and the female workers then use the fuel to cook. The digestate byproduct is then diluted in water and is used in the vegetable gardens as a soil nutrient.
The Malabon City biogas system produces cooking fuel equivalent to 24 kgs of LPG per month. It diverts more than 14 metric tons of kitchen waste away from landfill annually and thus prevents more than 37 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per year, preventing large amounts of pollutants from contributing to green house gasses in the atmosphere.
The community were involved at every stage of the project and CREST organizes learning sessions in the facility to promote the adoption of biogas systems in more urban villages in the country.
