CAN condemns Israeli assassinations of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza

11 August 2025

Climate Action Network fully condemns the Israeli killings of Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Moamen Aliwa, and their assistant Mohammed Noufal, and calls for an immediate end to the ongoing targeting of journalists who are protected in terms of the Geneva Convention. The journalists were killed in an attack on a tent housing journalists located outside the main gate of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital on August 10 2025. This brings the total killing of journalists in Gaza to over 230

In response, Tasneem Essop, Executive Director of Climate Action Network, said: “As if forced starvation of Palestinian women and children was not enough, the targeted killing of journalists fully underscores the ruthlessness and impunity of the Israeli government. Benjamin Netanyahu has been given a free pass by his political cronies at home and abroad to annihilate Gaza and all who speak the truth about the genocide that is being broadcast in real-time. Bearing witness and holding to account is fundamental to civil society, which Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues were courageously doing and for which they were killed, but their stories live on. Everyone who believes in the freedom of the press should condemn this latest targeting of journalists in Gaza and take action to end this.”
